Prefabricated building solutions provider Lida Group has opened a new 500,000 square foot factory campus on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon with advanced equipment enabling mass production of complete panelized assemblies for the company’s growing micro home and accessory dwelling unit (ADU) construction divisions.

The high-tech build-to-order facility utilizes robotics, computer numerical control (CNC) machinery and Lean optimization principles to produce exterior panelized wall, floor and roof assemblies for modular buildings under 160 square feet addressing the booming market for affordable secondary living spaces. Factory output targets 1,000 beds monthly with room for expansion based on regional demand projections.

Wall panels employ steel or fiber cement exteriors laminated to lightweight insulating foam cores cut with CNC routers to within 1/16″ precision for nesting configurations. Panels arrive pre-insulated, pre-wired and pre-plumbed with punchouts for doors and windows. Roof and floor panels feature integral insulation and radiant barriers between embedded purlins/joists for monocoque strength. Custom-fitted panels interface with structural headers.

On-site and off-site erection crews receive panels pre-identified with barcodes, part numbers and assembly maps simplifying field installation. Lean techniques eliminate redundant steps through just-in-time deliveries sequenced to foundation construction schedules. Digital control synchronizes completion to property lines for maximal densities.

Standardization minimizes costs while expanding local affordable housing, infill development and backyard construction unlocking more living spaces sustainably. Digital fabrication enables complex geometries, multi-material integration and customized panelization avoiding waste.

Annual factory output is projected to provide over 6,000 beds by 2025 to communities mobilizing land use reforms enabling ADUs. Additional factories will decentralize production closer to major markets across North America. Lida Group aims to scale advanced off-site solutions sustainably addressing affordable housing shortages nationwide.

In summary, through a highly-automated new factory, Lida Group expands modular panelized micro home and ADU construction to industrialize delivery of smaller living spaces affordably and sustainably at unprecedented scale through customized, high-quality panels benefiting infill and density goals of North American cities nationwide.
